What is a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling?

A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BPC) is like an infant feeding coach. BPC’s counsel patients on breastfeeding before they deliver their baby to help patients set infant feeding goals; are available in the hospital after delivery to help with latch and positioning and other infant feeding questions; and provide advice and answer questions about breastfeeding once patients go home. What sets BPC’s apart from other healthcare professionals that help with infant feeding is that they have personal breastfeeding experience.
