Introducing the University of Chicago Medicine Team for the FEEDS Study: Expanding the Reach of Our Research

Left to Right: Kiyara Johnson (Research Study Coordinator), Dr. Katrina Lee (Site Principal Investigator), Yesenia Ventura (Breastfeeding Peer Counselor), and Danielle Sabazan (Research Associate)

FEEDS launched an exciting new chapter this June with the addition of the University of Chicago Medicine team to our collaborative research efforts. Their involvement marks a significant expansion of our project’s scope, enabling us to include another important community in our study and further enrich our understanding of the impact of breastfeeding support.

Why This Partnership Matters

The additional of the University of Chicago Medicine site to FEEDS allows us to expand not only our sample size, but also the diversity of site, geography, and demographics as we study the clinical integration of Breastfeeding Peer Counseling. The University of Chicago Medicine is an academic medical center with a Level 4 neonatal intensive care unit serving a primarily Black and African American community on the South Side of Chicago. Implementing FEEDS at this site will expand our understanding of the nuances and challenges different populations face in relation to breastfeeding education and support. The University of Chicago’s commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of diverse communities will be instrumental in capturing a fuller, more holistic picture of the complex factors at play.

We’re excited about the new opportunities this collaboration brings and look forward to seeing the invaluable contributions from the University of Chicago Medicine team. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to broaden the reach and deepen the impact of the FEEDS study.
