World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) Planning and Recap of Last Year’s Event
World Breastfeeding Week Planning has begun!
World Breastfeed Week is an annual global celebration held the first week of August to celebrate the people and policies that help birthing parents to breastfeed. Check out https://waba.org.my/wbw/ for my more information on this event.
In August of 2023, the FEEDS team hosted community luncheons at both Highland Park Hospital and Swedish Hospital to celebrate the families participating in the FEEDS breastfeeding peer counseling programs. The event included raffles, games, and opportunities for patients and families to get to know one another.
This year’s theme is: Closing the Gap. There has been gaps between policies and implementation for breastfeeding support. The World Breastfeeding Week focus this year is encouraging community members to work together to close the breastfeeding support gaps, with an emphasis on breastfeeding in times of emergencies and crises. We are again planning for a community luncheon at Highland Park Hospital and Swedish Hospital to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and celebrate the patients who have participated in the FEEDS Study. We will recognize participating patients and their families at this event and will have raffles, prizes, food and fun celebrating together.
If you have any ideas that you would like to be included in this year’s event for World Breastfeeding week, please email the FEEDS team at feeds.study@northshore.org.
